A diverse 2650 acre woodland, The Fells includes areas of Medford, Winchester, Stoneham, Melrose and Malden. Natural habitats range from rocky hills, meadows, wetlands, and oak and hickory forests, to ponds and Vernal pools. Panoramic vistas and intriguing geological features delight visitors.

When you walk the many quiet hiking trails and old forest roads that wind through the Middlesex Fells, you may forget that you are only a few miles from Boston; yet this suburban landscape treasure is easily accessible from U.S. Route 93 or Mass. Rte. 28, numerous bus lines, rapid transit and commuter rail.

Where else in the world could you take a subway train for a few stops from the city center (to Oak Grove on the Orange Line), walk a short distance and begin a four-mile hike through forest (on the Cross Fells Blue Trail),l hear all number of song birds, see a blue heron on a pond and wild orchids blooming, glimpse and still emerge where a city bus will take you back to the subway (Winthrop Street in Medford)?

You are invited to meet at the 1849 Italianate Villa style Botume House Visitor Center overlooking Spot Pond at 4 Woodland Rd. in Stoneham, ½ mile south of Stone Zoo for cultural exhibits, environmental themed activities, and outdoor adventures including:
