In rural New England in the 1830s, the farmers and craftsmen in each town formed the local militia. At least once a year, these folks spent a day training, or were called to muster, to maintain readiness.

Witness the sights and sounds of a re-created early 19th-century muster day, as Village militia members fire their muskets and drill and practice battle techniques on the Common. Youngsters of all ages are invited to learn to march, make a militia hat, and try on a knapsack and cartridge box. Details: 1-800-SEE-1830

Admission: Adults $20, Seniors (65+) $18, Children (3-17) $7, Under 3 Free. Active military personnel receive a 50-percent admission discount, and members of their party get 25 percent off admission.
