A great chance to escape from the drudgery of winter and dream about a potential tropical vacation, the 2011 Boston Globe Travel Show features over 200 travel exhibitors and suppliers that represent every segment of the travel industry. Insiders like celebrated travel writers Arthur and Pauline Frommer will be available for questions about the best places to splurge and best chances to save on your next vacation.

Every vacation offers a chance to sample foreign delicacies, and at this year’s travel show, there will be two different stages where chefs and food writers will be offering tastings from some of their top destinations for cuisine. Other cultural presentations include:

-Jamaican Limbo Demonstration and Contest- There will be a public limbo demonstration and contest with the winner taking home a three-night all-inclusive package for two to a Jamaican resort

-Salsa Time! Presented by the Puerto Rico Tourism Board- Watch with awe as salsa dancers heat up the stage with amazing moves and then join them on stage for a quick lesson

-Bermuda’s Colorful Gombey Dancers- The Bermuda Gombey’s hypnotic rhythms and energetic dance performances have been a part of Bermuda’s history and culture since the 18th century. Participants from the crowd are welcome to come on stage and receive a Bermuda t-shirt, but only if your feet can keep up with the beat!

-Indonesian Saman Dance (Dance of a Thousand Hands) - ‘Saman’ is the most popular dance from Aceh on the island of Sumatra to celebrate noble occasions. Performers kneel in a row on the floor and make different kinds of torso movements accompanied by songs, clapping hands, slapping hands on the floor etc. It is an electrifying blend of dance and music, truly a feast for the eyes and ears.

Throughout the weekend there will be plenty of opportunities to win great giveaways, and make that tropical getaway dream a reality, including trips like a 6-night trip for two to the 12 Apostles Hotel & Spa in Cape Town, South Africa and the Royal Legend Safari Lodge in the Timbavati Private Game Reserve, courtesy of South African Airways and Lion World Tours. Other prizes include two round-trip tickets on Air Malta, a seven-night luxury river cruise in Europe, two round-trip tickets on the Amtrak Downeaster, a two-night getaway at the Bethel Inn Resort, and a seven-night Celebrity Cruise.

Last year, the Boston Globe Travel Show was the top-attended consumer
travel show in the United States. Sponsors for the 2011 show include Aruba Tourism Authority, JetBlue, Vacation Outlet, Bermuda Tourism, Aer Lingus, TNT Vacations, Omni Mount Washington Resort, Boston Ballet, The Bethel Inn Resort, Cruise Travel Outlet, Cape Air, Essex Resort & Spa, Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, and Poland Spring Resort.
