One of the most popular family outings to celebrate the cool, crisp days of autumn is the Fall Perennial Divide & Harvest Festival in Mattapan. This event attracts hundreds of community and backyard gardeners as well as families looking for a fun and free Saturday outing.

The annual Fall Perennial Divide & Harvest Festival hosted by Boston Natural Areas Network will be held on Saturday, October 1st from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. – rain or shine – at BNAN’s City Natives Nursery, 30 Edgewater Drive in Mattapan. The Nursery is accessible by public transportation.

The Festival will include some traditional autumn-inspired elements such as fresh pressed apple cider, a beekeeping demonstration to showcase BNAN’s productive hive, pumpkin painting for children, fresh
baked goods and produce, fresh honey, and live music provided by Two for the Show.

For more information about the Fall Perennial Divide & Harvest Festival, call 617-542-7696 or visit < ahref='https://eight.bostoncentral.com/fwd.php?main=events&sub=fair&sub2=2984&pgx=teb.ynehgnaabgfbo.jjj%2F%2F%3Acggu&backlink=%2Fevents%2Ffair%2Fp2984.php'>www.bostonnatural.org.

Gardeners are invited to pack up plant divisions and empty containers and participate in the free plant swap. A wide variety of plants are expected including Bleeding Heart, Peonies, Poppies, Day Lilies, Iris, and Lily of the Valley.

Tours of BNAN’s City Natives Nursery will be available and BNAN staff
and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about plant care and replanting.

This year, select native perennials and shrubs will be on sale to benefit City Natives Nursery. Selections will include Gaura, Butterfly Weed, New England Aster, Button Bush and Blue Lobelia. All plants are grown in Mattapan. Cost will range from $3.50 to $15.00 with various pot sizes available.
