Come to Joppa Flats for everything you’ve ever wanted to know about butterflies, moths, and caterpillars.
Staff members and volunteers will provide helpful information, hands-on learning, and several family-friendly activities, including lessons in backyard science, craft projects, and exercises in critter collecting.
Joppa’s Cecropia caterpillars are fully grown, and visitors may actually catch them in the fascinating act of creating their cocoons.
Education Coordinator Lisa Hutchings offers family presentations on the life cycle of butterflies and moths at 11am and 1pm.
And actor/naturalist Victor Atkins offers original story with puppet, Bobberty the Butterfly, at 12pm and 2:00.
Are there critters in your own back yard that you can’t identify?
Bring them or bring in a photo to Joppa on July 28 and the staff will do their best to help.
The free activities for adults and families will be held all day, rain or shine.
Preregistration is not required.
