Somerville Skillshare is a day of free classes, taught and organized by local residents, taking place at the Center for Arts at the Armory on Sunday, March 2nd from 12-6pm.

Inspired by Skillshares that have occurred in other cities such as Brooklyn and Seattle, the first Somerville Skillshare will offer nearly 40 free classes from 40 different teachers in seven unique classroom spaces (performance hall, two conference rooms, yoga and dance studios, cafe, and mezzanine.)

Attendees are encouraged to drop in and out during the day and take as many classes as they would like.

All ages are welcome to attend.

The organizers of this event are local residents who value the diversity of this city and the creative, unique skills that Somervillians (and their neighbors) have to offer.

They also seek to empower local residents–artists, artisans, professionals and hobbyists–by creating a highly visible platform that allows residents to showcase their unique talents to a broad community of learners.

Classes offered include Salsa Dancing, Parkour, Basic Bicycle Maintenance, Digital DJing, Creative Writing, Imaginary Map Making, Urban Beekeeping, CPR and First Aid, Bookbinding, Fermenting & Canning, and many more.

Classes are all taught by residents of Somerville and the surrounding communities.

Visit www.somervilleskillshare.org for the full class listing.

Join us on March 2nd to learn new skills, jump-start new hobbies, and meet other people with similar interests, all in a fun and informal setting.

LOCATION↑ top

191 Highland Ave, Somerville, MA, 02143 map

The Center for Arts at the Armory is conveniently located at 191 Highland Avenue between Davis and Union Squares in Somerville, Massachusetts. The award-winning Arts at the Armory Café can be found on the left-hand side as you enter the first floor. A free 44-space parking lot is located behind the Armory. Additional overflow parking lots are available. Please see below for their locations.

Because the Armory is located in a busy residential neighborhood, parking can be limited, and we strongly encourage you to car pool, take public transportation, ride your bicycle or walk. There are bicycle racks behind and in front of the building. Please do not lock your bike on the Armory railing.

Arts at the Armory is approximately a 15 minute walk from Davis Square which is on the MTBA Red Line. You can also find us by using either the MBTA RT 88 and RT 90 bus that can be caught either at Lechmere (Green Line) or Davis Square (Red Line). Get off at the Highland Avenue and Lowell Street stop. You can also get to us from Sullivan Square (Orange Line) by using the MBTA RT 90 bus. Get off at the Highland Avenue and Benton Road stop.

We have two overflow lots available for events once the main lot reaches capacity:
