Organizer, the North Shore Caribbean American Organization (NSCAO) and sponsor, Lynn Museum are proud to announce the Caribbean Festival Day on Saturday, June 14, 2014, 12pm – 4pm in recognition of Caribbean American Heritage Month (CAHM).
The event will include performances and a steelpan workshop by Crystal PanJammers Youth Steel Orchestra; Caribbean folk songs by musician Julio Bare; dance presentations by Cultura Latina Dance Academy and Zion Baptist Inspirational Youth; and a multimedia presentation by Ronald Lammy of Caribbean music genre including calypso, soca and reggae.
Games and activities for kids will be led by Lynn Museum staff.
A variety of dishes representing ‘Island’ tastes will be provided by the North Shore Caribbean American Organization and Rite Spice Restaurant of Lynn.
The event is free to all; food will be on sale for cash only.
Event Program:
12:00-3:30pm Taste of the Caribbean
• North Shore Caribbean American Organization (NSCAO) and Rite Spice Caribbean Restaurant featuring: rice and peas, jerk chicken, curried chicken, roti, fish cakes, Jamaican patties, and other Caribbean delights.
12:00-4:00pm Health & Fitness
• Community health activities and information provided by Lynn Community Health Center and A Better Path.
12:30pm Show and Tell
• Workshop and performance by Crystal PanJammers Youth Steel Orchestra
1:15pm Musical Presentation
• Caribbean folk music by Julio Bare
2:00-3:00pm Sounds of Oii – Origins, Identity and Influence
• Multimedia presentation by Ronald Lammy of musical performances by Caribbean artists connected to indigenous, African, and American art forms.
3:00pm Dance Presentation
• Dance presentations by Cultura Latina Dance Academy and Zion Baptist Inspirational Youth
