The Boston Jewish Film Festival is presenting the Summer Encore Series, seven great films from last year’s Festival, at the West Newton Cinema and Somerville Theatre. All films start at 7 pm.

A story set in an insular Orthodox Sephardic community.

When 13-year-old Aharon is selected to carry at the Torah in his town’s Simchat Torah celebration, he believes his luck may be changing.

Maybe he will no longer be at the mercy of his neighborhood bullies.

Maybe his father, Ninio (Lior Ashkenazi, Walk on Water, Eli and Ben, Footnote), will no longer be seen as the town loser.

Maybe his mother will become happy again.

Or maybe he will just learn some important lessons about growing up.
