Seven years ago, Darryl Settles (proprietor of Bob's Southern Bistro and partner of The Beehive) produced the South End's first jazz festival and had a surprise turnout of nearly 10,000 people. From this beginning, the BeanTown Jazz Festival has grown to become Boston's most popular outdoor festival, attracting large crowds to the festival grounds on Columbus Avenue each year.
2006 was a breakthrough year, as more than 50,000 people came out to enjoy great jazz on three stages, sample the food and crafts from vendors up and down Columbus Avenue, and relax with their children in the Target Family Park. BeanTown brings together people from diverse communities throughout the city and region, and has become a vital part of the Boston cultural calendar.
