Each year, the Creative Arts Parent Association (CAPA) of Wayland High School sponsors the College A Cappella concerts, which have become a musical highlight of Wayland life.
A cappella music features fresh arrangements of both classic and contemporary songs performed by unaccompanied singers, though vocalists sometimes emulate instruments.
Having experienced a huge surge in popularity in recent years, a cappella attracts the most talented singers on college campuses nationwide.
Among the featured college groups this fall is the all-female Chordially Yours fueled by some of the fiercest ladies of Boston University. Founded in 2000, they have been singing, dancing, swaying, aca-bopping, and jamming out to a range of songs for nearly 18 years. Taking tremendous pride in their group’s sound, original arrangements, and beat-boxing skills, they have participated (and placed) in a number of competitions and events, including the Faneuil Hall A Cappella Fest, the ICCAs, SheSings (An All-Female A Cappella Conference hosted by the Women's A Cappella Association), WGBH's Sing That Thing! and even opened for Lena Dunham at the Boston stop of her Not That Kind of Girl book tour.
The Testostertones (T-Tones) are Wayland High School’s all-male a cappella group, and will also be one of the featured WHS groups. Led by seniors, Sid Iyer and Nicholas Smith as well as junior, Sidney Toga, they are continuing the all-male a cappella tradition that has existed at Wayland since 2001.
Join CAPA as we mark the holiday season by coming to see these exuberant groups sing and entertain! Priced at $18, tickets are available at Donelan’s, Russell’s Garden Center, and online at the WHS CAPA website, www.whsarts.org.
You can also find pictures, videos, and additional information on the concert’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/collegeacappella/. Seats are general admission and doors open at about 7:00 p.m. The concert will have one intermission with complimentary refreshments.
The a cappella concerts are major fundraisers for the Creative Arts Parent Association (CAPA), the organization that supports all Wayland High School arts, music and theater programs.
