World Premiere of film Anikruya
August 13, 2009 -- Arlington Massachusetts is the location for the world premiere screening of Anikruya, the independent film produced by Ahura Z. Diliiza of Unicovia Pictures in Westbrook, Maine. The family-friendly, Red Carpet event takes place on Friday August 21 at the Regent Theater on Medford St.
Anikruya is an original fantasy film. It follows the adventure of a teenage girl named Tessa who finds a magical living book in a dream. The book, in the person of a young girl named Kang Yi, tells Tessa 'the real story of the Unicorn', also known as Anikruya. It is up to Tessa, with the help of the Anikruya, Seng and his apprentice Hua, to return the book to the Great Bookmakers and avoid being destroyed by the evil troll queen and her minions.
The writer/director of the film, Ahura Z Diliiza, created Anikruya through his independent film company Unicovia Pictures on a micro budget of less than $1000. No outside funding sources were used. Despite it's small budget, the film exhibits a great array of special effects. It also sports a diversely multicultural cast, even incorporating lines of dialogue in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese and Maori.
'What we lack in finances we make up for in pure talent and drive.' says Diliiza, who made the film primarily using his family and students as cast and crew. He also utilized an online film network to acquire additional actors including his two young stars, 9-year-old Courtney Zang and 16-year-old Olivia Goncalves, both from eastern Massachusetts. Music from Diliiza's own record label, Unicorn 1 Records was used exclusively to score the film.
The 550 seat former vaudevillian Regent Theater was chosen to host the event because of it's proximity to the families of the young actors and the film's budding fan-base. Diliiza plans another screening in his home state of Maine later in the year.
The gala will officially begin at 8:00 pm with cast and crew arriving to walk the red carpet at 7:30 and the doors to the theater will be opening promptly at 7:40 pm. Following the film, Diliiza will join his cast and crew on stage for questions from the audience.
Merchandise such as t-shirts, soundtrack CDs and children's items will be available for sale in the lobby preceding and following the screening. An official movie poster autographed by the cast and crew will also be auctioned off to help raise funds to submit Anikruya to various film festivals this fall.
Afterward all are invited to join the cast and crew to celebrate the premiere of Unicovia Pictures' first feature film. There will be refreshments, music, and a cake made especially for the occasion. Cover will be $5 with all children under 12 admitted at no charge.
The entire celebration will be alcohol-free to accommodate the young actors and all attending children.
