The feature film debut for Charles Schulz's popular comic strip characters finds the whole Peanuts gang entering a national spelling bee in New York City. Charlie Brown makes it to the finals rounds; if he loses, Charlie’s wise best friend Linus will be there to remind him that the world will not come to an end. A family favorite for all generations.
1969, U.S.
“The pleasures of the film are the delicate, unspectacular ones of the original comic strip: Snoopy's fantasizing that his dog house is a Sopwith Camel, Linus' going to pieces when he loses his blanket (his 'spiritual tourniquet'), or Charlie Brown's irritation when he finds the pitcher's mound covered by dandelions (Lucy tells him he looks cute standing there, which doesn't help).” –Vincent Canby, The New York Times
