“Freedom Riders,” a national traveling exhibition on display at WGBH Studios on April 20, tells the harrowing and inspirational civil rights story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. The self-guided exhibition combines photography and news coverage of the Rides, as well as first-hand audio accounts of the dangerous experiment in the fight for civil rights.

From noon-6pm, WGBH holds an open house at its Studios, featuring the exhibition and a book signing with Ray Arsenault, author of Freedom Riders: 1961 and the Struggle for Racial Justice. The open house, which is free and open to the general public, also includes a Q&A with original Rider Bernard Lafayette Jr. and Arsenault.

That evening, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum hosts the Boston premiere of Freedom Riders, the film from WGBH’s history series American Experience. Following the screening, 89.7 WGBH Radio’s Callie Crossley moderates discussion with the panel of original Riders Genevieve Hughes Houghton and Lafayette Jr.
