Love, Deutschmarks and Death
8:00 PM | Documentary
In the early 1960s, the so-called guest workers from Anatolia and other parts of Turkey were recruited by the Federal Republic of Germany.
From the beginning, there was something that always accompanied them and was part of their culture: their music – a piece of home in a foreign land.
Over the years, independent musical directions developed in Germany that did not exist in this form in their mother country.
This exciting documentary by Cem Kaya tells the unprecedented story of an independent musical culture of immigrants from Turkey, their children and grandchildren in Germany in an entertaining and very complex way with never-before-seen archive footage.

Almanya - Welcome to Germany
8:00 PM | Satirical comedy
On 10 September, 1964, Germany’s one-millionth 'guest worker' was welcomed.
Spanning a period of no less than forty-five years, this film by sisters Yasemin Samdereli (director) and Nesrin Samdereli (screenplay) tells the story of guest worker number one-million-and-one – a man named Hüseyin Yilmaz and his family.
Germany had long since become the family’s home when without warning one night, Hüseyin surprises his loved ones with the news that he has bought a house in Turkey and now wants to return to the old country.
Refusing to brook the slightest opposition, the entire family set off for Turkey.
This marks the beginning of a journey full of memories, arguments and reconciliations – until, that is, the family trip takes an unexpected turn…

Gundermann
8:00 PM | Biographical music film
Biopic about East-German singer-songwriter Gerhard Gundermann (1955–1998).
During the day, he worked as a digger operator in a coal mine.
Yet after his shift, he successfully performed as a singer who reached the masses.
In his songs, he pondered existential questions of life and death, but also didn't shy away from addressing current political and social issues.
His very personal lyrics and authentic performances made him a cultural icon in the German Democratic Republic of the Eighties.
