Since 1975, Boston’s First Night has been a New Year’s Eve celebration of artistic performances, the wonders of the season and the beginning of a new year.
Starting at noon on Friday, Dec. 31, many of the beloved traditions of First Night’s past will continue, including cultural and musical performances, fantastic ice sculptures, light displays, puppet theater, a Boston Youth Chamber concert and 2 fireworks displays. (7:00pm family fireworks on Boston Common & 12:00 midnight at Copley Plaza).
The People’s Procession at 6:00 PM, and 7:00 PM Family Fireworks sponsored by The Mugar Foundation on Boston Common.
Event Highlights
Puppet Showplace Theatre - Cardboard Explosion
This family friendly act will charm and delight children and adults alike, as resident artist Brad Shur brings unique puppets to life. The performances can be watched at the Copley Place Mall, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Waterfront Ice Sculpture Stroll Presented by: Boston Harbor Now
Get ready to count down to 2022 with over TWO dozen ice sculptures hosted by businesses and cultural sites across the Boston waterfront – the largest Waterfront Ice Sculpture Stroll ever!
When: December 31, 1pm – 4pm
Boston Youth Chamber
The group, composed of classically trained youth musicians, will perform at Boston Public Library beginning at 3 p.m. Jae Min Ahn, a senior at Wellesley High School, will play the violin, while Albert Tang, a senior at Boston University Academy, will be on the cello.
Frog Pond Skating Spectacular
At 6 p.m.The Skating Club of Boston celebrates the New Year at The Boston Common Frog Pond with our annual Skating Spectacular! Delight in watching spins, jumps, lifts and fancy footwork from our community of talented skaters.
Family Fireworks
Immediately following the show, the Mugar Family Fireworks will take place on Boston Common at 7:00pm.
