The New Center for Arts & Culture presents an edible tour of Jewish culture in Latin America – the languages, the literature, the music, the movies, the jokes, and of course, the food – by writer and Amherst College professor Ilan Stavans.

The program will feature a special menu prepared by Chef Erwin Ramos of Ole Mexican Grill in Cambridge.

Between courses, Stavans will talk about his childhood in Mexico and his subsequent travels through Central and South America, where the mingling of Jewish and Spanish influences has created a unique culture and cuisine.

He will be joined by Cantor Elias Rosemberg, a native Argentinian, who will enliven the evening with songs of Jewish Latin America.

Ilan Stavans -- Renowned for both his scholarship and his storytelling, Ilan Stavans is the author of numerous books, including “On Borrowed Words: A Memoir of Language,” “The Hispanic Condition,” and “Latino USA: A Cartoon History;” he is also editor of “The Oxford Book of Jewish Stories.”

Cantor Elías Rosemberg -- Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Cantor Elias Rosemberg comes from a family of musicians.

He first became a Cantor in 2001 at Temple Emeth in Chestnut Hill, Mass., before becoming the Cantor at Temple Emanuel in Newton, Mass., in 2007.
