All about Flavor: A Spice Workshop with Krina Patel

Learn how to create authentic flavors with a variety of spices!
This workshop engages participants in understanding spices and how they can be combined with foods and beverages to create authentic flavors.
The workshop begins with an introduction to the science of flavors and aromas.
Participants will then chart out the flavor profiles of popular spices and learn about the nutritional and healing qualities of these spices.
The hands on workshop involves tastings and discussions about flavor preferences.
Participants leave with a spice blend that they make based on their flavor preference.

About Krina
Krina Patel researches flavors and spices and how these help evoke and create food memories.
Her interest in flavors began while growing up in India surrounded by tea and spices.
Krina’s maternal grandfather established a tea trading firm in the city of Calcutta now known as Kolkata in the 1920s.
The business continues to be in the family today.
Krina’s childhood interests lead to her doctoral research and current work with food.
Completed at Harvard University the research work engaged food artisans in the Piedmont region of northern Italy.
