Myers + Chang Cooking Demo w/ Joanne Chang & Karen Akunowicz
When Chang married acclaimed restaurateur Christopher Myers, she would make him Taiwanese food for dinner at home every night.
The couple soon realized no one was serving food like this in Boston, in a cool but comfortable restaurant environment.
Myers+Chang was born and has turned into one of Boston’s most popular restaurants, and will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2017, just in time for publication of Joanne's long-awaited cookbook - Myers + Chang at Home.
Join us in The KITCHEN at The Boston Public Market as we welcome Joanne Change and Karen Akunowicz to talk about their new book and cook some of the tastiest recipes from it.
Sit for a while and watch these experts create delicious recipes, then taste samples of their creations and pick up the ingredients right in the Market to make the recipes at home.
Books for sale at the event - bring home a copy of Myers + Chang At Home!
Joanne and Karen will be signing copies.
What they'll be cooking & you'll get to eat!
TIGER’S TEARS - Cambodian legend has it that this salad is so spicy, it will make even a big strong tiger cry.
We tell all our guests this tale when delivering their salad and then slyly keep an eye on them as they begin eating to see if they start to sweat or shed tears.
You can vary the heat by changing the amount of Thai bird chilies or jalapeños you use, but don’t get too shy.
The best part of eating this rare beef salad is fanning your face and feeling the heat wake up your insides.
It’s completely addictive and we have had guests visit us weekly since we’ve opened to get their fix.
GREEN PAPAYA SALAD - Every Southeast Asian country has some variation of a green papaya or mango salad.
It offers great texture, bright and bold flavors, and stands out well on its own or as an awesome accompaniment to fish or grilled protein.
This is an awesome summer barbecue go-to instead of the same macaroni salad you make every year.
Our version is dressed in nuoc cham and spiked with Thai bird chilies and peanuts.
It is quick to assemble, pleasingly refreshing, and very spicy.
The slightly tart flavor of the green papaya combines well with spice of the Thai bird chilies and the saltiness of the fish sauce.
If we had our way, every table would order one to enjoy with their dinner.
