This year, Relay For Life commemorates its 25th year and throughout the years has become the American Cancer Society’s largest signature activity as well as the most successful national fundraiser.

Relays are 12 to 24 hours in length and go overnight. Teams of 8 to 15 people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking, jogging, or running around a track or path. Teams are encouraged to camp out in tents and enjoy the great music, food, and camaraderie of the event. In Massachusetts this year, nearly 100 Relay events are planned.

Dollars raised during Relay For Life help support the American Cancer Society in saving more lives and creating more birthdays by helping people stay well and get well, by finding cures, and by fighting back against cancer.

Becoming a Team Captain - Relay For Life offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Relay is an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length. The event brings communities together to learn about and raise money for the fight against cancer. As a Team Captain, responsible for recruiting walkers and runners and making the connection between them and your local American Cancer Society office, you are the heart and soul of Relay For Life. Find a Relay and sign up to be a team captain today at cancer.org/MArelays.
