OM Restaurant & Lounge in Harvard Square will host a dinner on Monday, August 31st to benefit the CitySprouts school garden program in the Cambridge Public Schools. Beginning with Fiore Di Nonno’s fresh mozzarella and closing with torched peaches and Concord maple syrup (harvested at Gaining Ground Farm), Chef Michael Madden’s end-of-summer meal will also feature tea smoked blue fish, Pat Woodberry littlenecks, and Wolfs Neck bavette steak.
Local farms are joining OM in raising funds for CitySprouts by donating ingredients-- Allandale Farm, Appleton Farm CSA and The Food Project gardens will all be represented at the table. The $75 dinner includes wine paired with each course, and gratuity. A vegetarian option is available (call ahead to order).
“It’s fitting that the late summer harvest is helping to support and grow the school programs where city children learn about healthy eating and growing food first-hand. Chef Michael Madden is not only creating a delicious dinner for guests, he is feeding the hearts and souls of our city kids,” says CitySprouts Executive Director Jane Hirschi. This fall, CitySprouts will operate its award-winning program in all twelve of the city’s elementary and middle schools.
CitySprouts school gardens are a hands-on resource for urban children to learn about food, the environment and to support their academic learning in public schools. CitySprouts’ outdoor classroom gardens are used by 75% of the teachers in Cambridge Public Schools for science, math, social studies and art.

CitySprouts’ mission is to develop, implement and maintain beautiful, resource-rich school gardens in collaboration with public school communities. Integrated into the curriculum, CitySprouts gardens inspire teachers, students, and families with a deep, hands-on connection to the food cycle, sustainable agriculture, and the natural environment. Started in 2000 from the efforts of educators, parents and community members, and with the partnership of the Cambridge Public Schools, CitySprouts is a nonprofit that builds ‘outdoor classroom’ gardens for teachers' use in all subjects, grades kindergarten through 8th. Today, CitySprouts is a district-wide program serving all 4,000 children and youth enrolled in the city’s public schools, and hundreds of children and adults through its after school and summer programs April – November.
