On October 20th, FANSplash, the philanthropic arm of the Family Action Network (FAN), will be the beneficiary of Whole Foods, Woburn's 5% day charitable giving program. FANSplash will utilize these funds to help create a multi-use, (drinking) water-based, handicapped accessible recreational facility.

Whole Foods Market, being a 'company with a conscience' believes passionately in supporting the communities they serve. They understand the notion of interdependence and are committed to assisting deserving organizations. FANSplash is honored to have met their criteria of having an active and responsible board, have exhibited ethical solicitation of funds, and have also demonstrated long-term financial viability. Kirsten Linder, Whole Foods Representative, further stated that customers can help support FANSplash just by shopping at Whole Foods, Woburn on October 20th.

FANSplash has spent the past four months working to raise awareness about its goal to create a community gathering place that is accessible and welcoming to all ages by maximizing the site’s existing assets and adding several new features. They have raised over $40,000 to date and they attribute their success thus far to the support and encouragement they have received from the community, and to the dedication and assistance of FANSplash volunteers.

FANSplash has reached a pivotal point in their planning process: the Land Survey and Master Site Plan are finished, the Selectmen's unanimous approval has been granted; now they just need to determine the extent to which the plans can be realized. This is completely determined by how much money they are able to raise. If you were thinking about donating to this project, in any amount, whether it is $5, $50, $150, or more, they ask that you please consider donating today. All donations are tax deductible and go directly towards creating wonderful, inclusive, water based recreational gathering place for all to enjoy!

Elizabeth Angelino. Co-President of FAN and Chair of the FANSplash Project, in summarizing her experience of raising funds within the current economic climate, referred to a quote made by Mr. Clarence Borggaard who had led the last Wedge Pond revitalization effort, for what he said twenty years ago is just as relevant today, “Unfortunately, this is a very bad time to go looking for funds. Everyone is spent out and is weary of giving, but in this case, time is of the essence. There is much work to be done, even after the money has been raised, and the days have already started to get longer. So I beg of you, everyone in Winchester, young or old, rich or poor, please revive the old “Spirit of Winchester” and as he said, with a bit of “Positive Thinking” we can give the kids in Winchester a chance to swim, and to make a splash.

You can learn more about the project and make a secure donation online at www.fansplash.org. You can also go to www.winrec.com or call 781.721.7126 to learn about their major fundraiser - a tile making opportunity where you can have your child(ren) decorate a tile that will be installed on the bathhouse and will become part of the lasting legacy. More than 90% of the proceeds from each tile will go directly towards the Revitalization Project.

FAN is committed to providing a multitude of resources for our members, diverse family programming for Winchester Residents, and in supporting our local economy. The Revitalization of Borggaard Beach fits squarely within their mission and would appreciate your support. About FANSplash
FANSplash is proposing to turn Winchester’s Borggaard Beach into a year-round, barrier-free recreational facility by installing an automated interactive splash park and updating the current playground amenities. Both Splash Park and playground are designed to be handicap accessible, addressing the gaping hole that currently exists for providing recreational opportunities for those with disabilities.

An updated multi-use facility would provide a low cost recreational activity for families, with the potential to keep more families local during the summer months. Attracting increased membership to Borggaard Beach could help defray the substantial monetary loss that the Town of Winchester incurs annually to operate the currently underused beach facility and further support the local economy. It has been estimated that the town loses up to $40,000 annually to operate the beach facility for its 10 week season.

About FAN
The Family Action Network (FAN) is a non-profit organization which seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas, to provide parenting resources and to offer a support network for Winchester families with infants and small children.
