On Sunday, May 19th the National Brain Tumor Society, the largest nonprofit dedicated to the brain tumor community in the United States, will host its annual Boston Brain Tumor Ride.

The event, to take place in Waltham, unites the brain tumor community - including patients, survivors, families, and friends - together to support and honor those affected by this deadly disease and rally toward a cure.

The family-friendly ride and community day will help raise vital funds in support of the National Brain Tumor Society’s mission to find better treatments, and ultimately a cure for brain tumors.

The event includes scenic 10-, 25-, and 50-mile rides, as well as prizes and food.

Registration begins at 7:00 AM, with programs and activities running from 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM.

The Boston Brain Tumor Ride is one of 14 Walks, Races, and Rides the National Brain Tumor Society hosts throughout the year to support the brain tumor community.

“Brain tumors are highly complex, highly adaptable, and current survival rates for patients are unacceptable,” said N.

Paul TonThat, Executive Director of National Brain Tumor Society.

“Funds raised through our events across the country allows us to drive innovative research to accelerate discoveries of new treatments that will increase survival and improve the quality of life for brain tumor patients and survivors.”

Thousands of families in Massachusetts are affected each year by brain tumors.

Across America, there are nearly 700,000 people living with a primary brain tumor, and an estimated 13,700 people will die because of the disease this year.

Brain tumors are the second leading cause of cancer-related death in children under age 20, and third leading among young adults age 20-39.

Only one out of three adults diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor today will be alive in five years.

More so than any other cancer, a brain tumor can have life-altering psychological, cognitive, behavioral, and physical effects.

Yet, with only four FDA-approved therapies in the past 30 years, treatment options are limited and often come with adverse side effects.

There is no cure.
