All proceeds will support Massachusetts’ underserved students in pursuit of their goals of a college education and career.
The fundraiser’s theme will be “Workforce Development” in celebration of the organization’s monumental milestone: the 1,000th Bottom Line student slated to graduate and enter the workforce this spring.
The event—to be held at the Boston Convention Center from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8—will bring together roughly 900 local business and industry leaders and will include a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions, a speaking program and dinner.
Special guests in attendance include Bottom Line executives and students, community leaders, keynote speaker and State Street Executive Vice President Alison Quirk, and more.
As Executive Vice President at State Street, Quirk is the driving force in the development of State Street’s culture, and plays an instrumental role in the company’s Bottom Line sponsorship and mentorship programs.
As the event’s keynote speaker, she will reflect on Bottom Line’s growth and achievements in its mission to better serve underprivileged students, and discuss what the future holds for the organization’s further development.
Joining Quirk on stage as a featured student speaker will be Tarialis Garcia, who will provide a first-hand look at the challenges facing Boston’s underserved students and discuss her trials and triumphs as a Bottom Line student and college junior.
“Every student, regardless of social or economic situation, deserves the best chance to attend college and better his or her life,” said Mike Wasserman, Executive Director of Bottom Line Massachusetts.
“We are so proud of this milestone and what it means for both our students and the Massachusetts economy and business landscape.
I look forward to exceeding our fundraising goals again this year and helping the next thousand students graduate and begin a meaningful career.”
The Get In, Graduate and Go Far Dinner, presented by longtime sponsor, State Street, provides key funding in support of Bottom Line’s mission to help disadvantaged students get into college, graduate, and go far in life.
Additional sponsors of the fundraiser include Sun Life Financial, Stop & Shop, and RBC – Global Asset Management, Wealth Management and Capital Markets.
Last year’s benefit raised $750,000, and this year, Bottom Line is hoping to raise one million dollars through ticket sales and the evening’s auctions.
Among the special items for auction this year are a six-night trip to a Jamaican Villa, in-home dinner with celebrity chef David Punch, Celtics and Red Sox suite tickets, and much more.
For 17 years, Bottom Line has sought to empower disadvantaged students through a college education, offering a unique, two-fold college retention method.
The Access program provides college-bound high school students with one-to-one counseling at every step of the college and financial aid application processes.
The Success program provides students with key support throughout their college educations with one-to-one counseling, academic support, and social guidance for up to six years.
Currently, one in four college-bound students from the City of Boston receives support from Bottom Line either during the college application process, throughout college or both.
Through fundraising efforts such as the Get In, Graduate and Go Far Dinner the organization hopes to help even more low-income youth achieve their goal of higher education.
