The film traces the origins of the movement through the eyes of nine Americans who propelled it from beginnings in the 1950s to the moment of triumph in 1970 with the original Earth Day. Discussion follows with director Robert Stone, environmental journalist Stephanie Mills, who appears in the film, and Dr. Michael B. McElroy, Environmental Studies professor at Harvard University.
