This power plant will impact Andover residents from an air quality perspective, first responders under mutual aid, and has the potential to impact the drinking water supply. This plant, if built, will be the 13th largest power plant in Massachusetts (out of over 154). The surrounding communities of Tewksbury, Chelmsford and Lowell, in addition to Billerica, will all be directly affected.
Emissions from this plant will most greatly impact residents in a wide radius, and those most at risk are young children and the elderly. Particulate matter from the six, eighty-foot stacks, has been documented by the EPA as most hazardous to those with compromised breathing issues. Due to wind patterns and its proximity to the site, concerns about this matter settling over West Andover is of the highest order.
Previous information sessions in Tewksbury, Chelmsford and Lowell have been well received, and the local delegation is squarely on board.
Please mark your calendar and plan to attend an information session presented by local residents on Thursday, October 9th at 7pm at Memorial Hall/Andover Public Library. Our special guests will be The Sierra Club.
