A Green Thumbs Up
Just back from a Friday night show of the Grinch at the Wang Theatre and I'm still smiling. The Grinch (played by Stefan Karl, who plays the Robbie Rotten character from lazytown) steals the show. He plays a fantastic Grinch - from his comedic antics right down to his costume - he won over the audience at his first appearance and got lots of laughs and applause.
We attended a Friday night show with a 7 & 5 year old and they both really loved it. The show runs about 90 minutes with no intermission so it sails right by. I recommend parking at the Radisson Hotel lot ($15) and less than 2 blocks to the theatre.
The show deviates a bit from the classic cartoon show, as Max the Dog becomes the narrator as he strolls down memory lane and tells the tale. The Whos are colorful and fun, but they leave you craving much more of the Grinch himself. You'll enjoy favorite songs like 'Welcome Christmas' and of course - 'You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch', along with a newer 'Who Loves Christmas'. Cindy-Lou Who does a great job in several key scenes with the Grinch (namely the famous 'Santy Claus, why'...).
For die hard Grinch Lovers, it's a little hard to let go of the classic cartoon, (Max as narrator isn't quite the same and the Whos, albeit festive, are a bit overdone) but overall it's a winner, and you'll leave the theatre smiling and singing the songs all the way home.RELATED LINKS | ↑ top |
