Why do noses run, or zits form? Some things are so gross that you just have to learn about them. Biology may not always be beautiful, but it’s life. This exhibit presents the science behind the things we all deal with in a fun and interactive way. You can't help but want to explore.

Explore why your body produces mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly and stinky gunk at Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body. Based on the best-selling book Grossology, this exhibit uses sophisticated animatronics and imaginative displays to tell you the good, the bad and the downright ugly about runny noses, body odor and much more.

Visit the 'Vomit Center', the 'Toot Toot' exhibit, or the 'Burp Machine' Find out why our bodies can be so gross, based on author and science teacher Silvia Branzei's books.

Did you know?
  • It is better to breathe through your nose than your mouth. Only air going through the nose is cleaned, warmed and moistened before it reaches your lungs.

  • Your mouth is the most unsanitary part of your whole body. More than 100,000,000 micro-creatures live there at any one time.

  • Feet sweat because there are about 250,000 pores on their soles that squirt a quarter cup of liquid each day.

  • Every day you make four to eight cups of urine. The amount depends on how hot it is outside, what you eat and how much you drink.

  • Ear wax coats the inside of the ear canal to trap any nasty stuff like dirt, dust and bugs that get into your ear. People who live in big cities make more ear wax.

Stop by the “Toot Toot” exhibit to create sounds that replicate the physics of gas.

  • Explore the role of the kidney in Urine: The Game.” Climb a large-scale replica of human skin.
