ChopChop, which was founded in order to combat childhood obesity by engaging kids in cooking, will be playing host to activities for all ages.
Interactive games and exhibits will include a kid-demo’d smoothie bar, a “Did You Know?” game to identify unusual fruits and vegetables, a cooking station where kids will prepare their own baked apples to take home using First Lady Michelle Obama’s recipe (as seen in the Winter Edible Gifts issue of ChopChop), fitness and fun with hula hoops and dancing to the performance of an African drummer. Kids will receive ChopChop goodie bags including the latest issue.
Speakers passionate about the magazine and the issue will include First Lady Diane Patrick of Massachusetts; Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone; Barry S. Zuckerman, MD, Chief of Pediatrics at Boston Medical Center and Medical Advisor to ChopChop; Gary Hirshberg, CEO of Stonyfield Farm (a ChopChop sponsor); Carole Charnow, Boston Children’s Museum President & CEO; Christina D. Economos, PhD, Associate Professor of Nutrition at Tufts University; and TKTK from New Balance Foundation (a ChopChop sponsor).
Boston Children’s Museum has donated the space for the party, which will take place during open Museum hours. Thanks to their Target $1 Friday Nights, offered every Friday from 5 PM – 9 PM, kids and their families pay $1 per person to the event, and also gain entry to the Museum for the evening. New Balance has donated footwear for the kid volunteers helping to run the event, and hula hoops and other fitness gear to help party-goers get moving at the party.
ChopChop’s goal is to get a copy of the magazine into the hands of every child. To that end, there will be a table manned by kid volunteers to “Buy One, Give One” as a way to offer a thoughtful holiday gift for a child who otherwise wouldn’t have access to the nutritious, great-testing, ethnically diverse and inexpensive recipes, as well as fun food facts, Q & A’s, and games to be found in every issue of ChopChop. The cost of both subscriptions is $29.90.
