It is important for family members to have the specific training they need in order to provide safe, effective care for their loved ones who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids.

BOOST provides instruction on important safety concerns and sensitivity issues; proper use of equipment; the importance of good body mechanics; types and use of walkers, crutches, canes and gait belt use; and prevention of pressure ulcers.

A variety of wheelchair transfers and maneuvers will be performed.

Watching these demonstrations helps attendees learn about safe wheelchair use, including how to avoid common mistakes caregivers make when assisting someone in a wheelchair.

The presentation will be led by Juanita Allen Kingsley, Director of Business Development at Century Health Systems.

A health educator, she trains more than 2,000 people in the MetroWest region annually through her First Aid, Wilderness First Aid, CPR and AED classes in addition to the variety of health and safety programs she leads.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion.

Register by calling 781-235-3961.

BOOST is available through grants provided by the Tufts Health Plan Foundation.

Century Health Systems is located at 209 West Central Street, Suite 316, Natick, Mass., 01760.
