Outdoor activity is important to children’s health.
Research has shown that children who spend more time outside are not only healthier overall, but also tend to get more sleep, as well as demonstrate more focus, attention, and creativity in school when they spend time outdoors.
An inactive lifestyle can contribute to childhood obesity, Type 1 diabetes, and asthma, among other serious health concerns.
Outdoors Rx is a free program created by the Appalachian Mountain Club, a Boston-based non-profit organization, with the help of Mass General Hospital for Children that helps children build an active and outdoor lifestyle by rewarding them with cool gear and outdoors-themed prizes.
We offer free, year-round family programs on weekdays and weekends that making getting outside fun and easy.
Join us for nature walks, family hikes, outdoor exploration and nature play, stroller-friendly walks, letterboxing, scavenger hunts and more.
