EPOCH is promoting the holiday with fun activities directed at children, including a puppet show by Gerwick Puppets, “Woodland Cinderella” at 2 p.m. (gerwickpuppets.com). Face painting, balloons, refreshments and prizes will also be provided.

EPOCH of Weston hopes to bring seniors without local family together with community members without a local grandparent and establish a multi-generational connection that may last beyond the holiday.

Introduced to help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer, in 1978 the United States Congress passed legislation proclaiming the first Sunday after Labor Day as National Grandparents Day. Today, there are many elderly people without nearby family, and many families without local elders. This event supports the connection within our community of young and old.
