Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word Dīpāvali meaning “row of lamps.” It is also known as the Festival of Lights. It is celebrated throughout India by families and friends and honors many different traditions across India. Join us as we explore the sights, sounds and spirit of this Indian holiday.

Families are invited to participate in many traditional activities during the day. Welcome the holiday by creating a traditional rangoli design. Make a diya, or lamp, in celebration of the spirit of the holiday. Hear storytelling, smell spices, and much more.

Special guests include the group OmSatsang performing a yoga demonstration and leading an aarti, Hindu song, as part of the holiday festivities. Local dance groups will also introduce different styles of Indian classical and folk dance.

Participating in Boston Children’s Museum’s Diwali celebration allows visitors to experience Indian culture and tradition first-hand!
