Children can also help create a flag mosaic using postage stamps, make a collection (free) of American flags on stamps to take home and have their photograph made into a postage stamp.
The Spellman Museum’s special exhibits for the summer include “Old Glory on US Stamps”, “A History of the Boston Post Road, ” and “Colonial Mail”.
In addition, the Museum has on loan one of the very rare U.S.
airmail stamps commonly called “The Inverted Jenny.” Featuring a misprinted upside-down airplane, less than 100 are in existence and some have sold for as much as $800,000.
Anyone named Jenny will receive free admission.
In addition, visitors can view the Museum’s other displays including ‘Civil War Envelopes”, “Zeppelin Mail,” “Weston Postal History” “Antique Stamp Cases” and “Children’s Postal Games ” Outside the Museum, children can use chalk to draw a stamp hopscotch game and families can picnic on the Museum lawn.
The Museum gift shop will offer philatelic supplies and stamp related gifts.
Complimentary refreshments will include lemonade, popcorn and a Postage Stamp birthday cake.
The Museum is an official post office and will be selling all current US stamps.
Throughout the summer, the Museum offers activities for children who always receive a complimentary packet of stamps and tips about how to start their own stamp collection.
The Museum has been voted by Nickelodeon as “one of the three best Museums in the Metro area for children.
The Museum is air-conditioned and parking is free.
It is closed on Sundays in July and August.
