Children's Day Holiday
Mayor Thomas Koch has declared Children's Day as an offi ial holiday in the city of Quincy for the second year in a row!
The holiday will be celebrated Sunday, June 14th, 2015.
The declaration came at the request of 7-year-old Mya Mooney of Quincy, who is trying to make Children's Day recognized as widely as Mother's Day and Father's Day.
This Sunday was selected to be Children’s Day in Quincy because there’s a push in other parts of the country to make the second Sunday in June a holiday dedicated to children.
To observe the holiday, Mya is encouraging parents and guardians to show extra patience and kindness toward their children and provide them with plenty of hugs, kisses and FUN FUN FUN!!
Families can observe Children’s Day by wearing pink, purple, yellow, orange, green, blue, or black & white polka dots, which she hopes will become the holiday’s universal color combination.
Each of the 7 colors represent a significant virtue.
Her parents have started an organization called The Children’s Chariot, which is dedicated to nurturing innovative and creative young leaders.
