The Basic Skills Program is designed by U.S. Figure Skating to be the best beginning ice skating program that serves the needs of both the recreational and competitive skater. The curriculum is designed to keep skaters enthusiastic about learning from the time they begin lessons until the time they reach their goals. Whether their goal is to achieve Olympic fame or simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, the Basic Skills Program is the place to start!
The objectives of the program are:
-To provide a fun and safe skating experience for the beginner as well as the more advanced skater
-To teach correct technique of the simple basic elements
-To promote health and physical fitness
-To enable all participants to achieve the skills necessary to either skate for fun the rest of their lives or to move competently into the U.S. Figure Skating advanced test and/or competitive structure
Skate rentals are available. Skate sharpening and used skates are available on site as well.

From the North:
Take RT 93 South (Fitzgerald Expressway) or Route 1 South over the Tobin
Bridge, which merges onto the Expressway.
Exit from RT 93 onto Storrow Drive.
Remain on Storrow Drive along the Charles River-following signs toward Newton.
Storrow Drive becomes Soldier’s Field Road and continues bearing left, when Route 2 breaks off (Do not take Route 2 which bears off to the right).
After Route 2 continues to the right, there is a stop light. Continue through this stop light and take next right which is a “jughandle” (opposite CBS TV/Radio Station and Tower).
Proceed through stop light crossing Soldier’s Field Road and continue one block.
Take next right onto Western Avenue.
The Skating Club is on the right just past Day's Hotel, opposite McDonald's.
From The South:
From the Southeast Expressway take Exit 20 (Mass Pike).
Go 3.4 miles to Exit 18 (Brighton/Cambridge).
After toll booth bear left (Allston/Brighton) to off-ramp.
Continue straight to 2nd set of lights (Hess Gas Station).
Take a right onto North Harvard Street.
Go .4 miles and look for Dunkin Donuts.
Go past Dunkin Donuts to the lights and then take a left onto Western Avenue.
Go .4 miles until you see The Skating Club of Boston on the right.
The Club is across the street from McDonald’s.
From Route 128 North and South
Take Route 2 East until you reach the Alewife T Station.
Look for signs for Watertown & Boston (Routes 2, 3 & 16 West).
Bear right around the Alewife T Station.
Go through 2 sets of lights after passing T Station.
When you come to the rotary, go around to the left, continuing
on Routes 2, 3 and 16 West).
At the 2nd set of lights continue straight-do not take RT 16 West.
Go through 2 sets of lights and bear right at the fork onto Greenough Boulevard.
Follow Greenough Boulevard until it comes to an end and turn left at the lights (Arsenal Street).
Go straight through intersection onto Western Avenue.
Go approximately 1 mile-until you see McDonald’s on the right.
The Skating Club is directly across the street from McDonald’s.
