This March 16-18, Arlington Children’s Theater takes to the Regent stage in its junior production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s award-winning musical, “Into the Woods.” Featuring two complete casts of young people ages 7-17, this walk in the woods affords children a glimpse of some of their favorite fairy tale characters in a completely new context, while compelling their adults to smile at the truths only adults can know.

Parents familiar with “Into the Woods” might be relieved to know that this “junior” version is the upbeat first act of the original production, both shorter and lighter for a younger audience.
The story begins innocently enough: with a wish. But add a spiteful witch, her curse on the Baker and his Wife, toss in Cinderella, Jack (of beanstalk fame), Little Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel and a host of other fairy tale characters—including a rather hungry wolf—and things quickly get out of hand. But before the final curtain falls, “Into the Woods, Jr.” presents a poignant and hilarious parable about the pitfalls of selfishness and the importance of community.

About the Arlington Children's Theatre
Established in 1991, Arlington Children's Theater is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating positive theatrical experiences for children aged 4 through 18. ACT is an all-volunteer organization, made up of families who wish to have fun and work hard to bring theater to life. We hire theater professionals to teach our workshops and direct our shows. Each show relies on the participation of adult volunteers involved in every aspect of the production: lighting, costumes, make-up, set construction, set crew, etc. Participation in an ACT production is open to any child, from any town, willing to work with fellow actors and the directors. No prior theatrical experience is required.

This production of “Into the Woods, Jr.” is being sponsored by Cambridge Savings Bank and has been produced by arrangement with Music Theatre International.
