The fifth of May is celebrated as Children's Day in Japan and by Japanese Americans. Origianlly known as Boys' Day, banners in the shape of koi (carp) symbols of courage and strength, fly above rooftops and fill the Japanese landscape during the month of May.

To celebrate this traditional day, children and adults enjoy an origami demonstration by Michael LaFosse of Origamido Studio, experience a taiko drumming workshop, and participate in art activities.
