Jazz and rock enthusiasts are sure to relish the performance which features a variety of musical styles ranging from traditional swing, to up tempo Latin, as well as original compositions, contemporary funk/rock selections and beautiful ballads.
Performing in an open space with views from two floors, this outstanding group of musicians, including pianist Jimmy Craven, saxophonists Lance Van Lenten and John Vanderpool, trumpeter Rob Reustle, guitarist Stelios Michas, bassist Chris Rathbun and percussionists Ted Sajdyk and Ed Sorrentino, will delight audiences with their own twists on traditional standards.
Singer Pimentel, described as “a woman with extraordinary talent, charisma and raw energy” has been compared to everyone from Aretha Franklin to Janis Joplin to Bonnie Raitt and with good reason. Her voice is a torrent of emotion, lush with sincerity and dense with complexity. On stage she’s drawn the attention of George Clinton, Phillip Bailey, and Yo-Yo Ma. She’s been referred to as “a true vocal genius by any measure.”
Jazz Upfront is just one of six concerts in SSC’s Conservatory Concert Series (CCS), featuring live performances from October 2010 to April 2011. The final concert of the series features The Colonial Brass, the U.S. Air Force Band of Liberty's brass ensemble, on April 3, at 4 pm at the Conservatory’s Hingham location. The concert is free and open to the public.
