Started in 2004 as an after school club to build a huge book about an important topic, the original fifth grade student members chose the topic of peace.
They wrote thousands of letters to people all over the world and to date have received over 3000 submissions for the giant book from students, teachers, veterans, activists, refugees and even celebrities.
Among the contributors are nine Nobel Laureates former President Jimmy Carter, former President Nelson Mandela of South Africa, the 14th Dali Lama, Dr. Helen Caldicott, Melbourne, Australia, E'badi of Tehran, Iran, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Cape Town South Africa, Dr. Wangari Maathai, Kenya, Africa, Jody Williams, Brattleboro Vermont and Betty Williams, Northern Ireland. Other notable contributors include the late Senator Edward Kennedy, Senator John Kerry, former Congressman Martin Meehan, Chancellor of University of Massachusetts at Lowell, Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, 5th district, Lowell, MA, Howard Zinn, professor emeritus at Boston University, political scientist, activist, General Peter Pace (Ret) former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, skateboarder Tony Hawk, Singer, activist Pete Seeger and Greenday's Billie Joe Armstrong
