Each program features a guest builder from the MIT community who adds expertise, inspiration, and humor. We provide a list of supplies and a recipe for an alcoholic and non-alcoholic “hacktail”.

Turn a room in your home into a chain reaction contraption! Use all sorts of materials to build, test, and connect sections of your own sprawling Rube-Goldberg-like creation.
Experiment with ways to make each section trigger the next. Then learn the guidelines to make a video of your contraption that can become a link in a big community-built Virtual Chain Reaction video!

Materials Needed:
Cardboard
Scissors
Tape
Paper
Marbles or other balls
Pencils
Toothpicks or bamboo skewers
String
Optional materials:
Rubber bands
Cups
Silverware
Cans, bottles, and other recyclables
Spools
Dominoes
Legos, K'nex, or other building toys
Motorized toys
Markers and other decorating materials
Anything else that inspires you!
Hacktail: Spring into Science
Springtime and science are in the air! It's time for a refreshing and festive cocktail to celebrate Cambridge Science Festival! Mix these ingredients and pour over ice.
2 ounces rum (or non-alcoholic: lemonade)
1/2 ounce lime juice
1 teaspoon honey
5 ounces sparkling wine (or non-alcoholic: soda)
