Festivities will include talks with experts and special guests, guided tours of the home, drop-in art making, live music and a taste of traditional Chinese cuisine.
Yin Yu Tang – translated as “Hall of Plentiful Shelter” – was home to the Huang family for nearly two hundred years.
For the past 20 years, Yin Yu Tang has been a gateway into understanding the art and culture of generations of families living and working in rural Southeastern China.
Since 2003, over 850,000 people have visited this unique, immersive environment at PEM.

Former PEM Curator of Chinese Art Nancy Berliner and key Chinese and American project partners discuss the history of his unprecedented cultural exchange project with Karina H. Corrigan, PEM’s Associate Director – Collections and the H. A. Crosby Forbes Curator of Asian Export Art.

Chinese Opera with the Atlanta Drama Club

Hear Chinese opera performed live by performers from the Atlanta Drama Club.
The Atlanta Drama Club is committed to fostering artistic exchange between China and the United States by presenting Chinese culture through various art forms including Peking and Yue opera.
DROP-IN ART MAKING
Piece by Piece Memory Quilt
1—3 pm | Create Space Studios
Contribute to a memory quilt inspired by PEM’s children’s book Piece by Piece.
Make a quilt square of your own design that represents your family or culture, and be a part of a project that symbolizes bridging communities and Yin Yu Tang’s home away from home in Salem.

Yin Yu Tang and Huizhou Architecture with Ron Knapp

Join a leading expert on Chinese architecture, Ron Knapp, for a conversation about architecture in the region where Yin Yu Tang was built.
