Preschool at The Gables’ SettlementPreschool programs differ greatly from young children’s day care in specialized focus, structure, daily schedule, academic standards, and academically trained teachers. Preschools prepare children in social and academic curricula and for the transition to the scholastic environments of kindergarten and elementary school.

Program hours support the transition times between a child’s solitary pursuits and group activities so necessary to learning about self and others.Karen Pelletier will speak on June 24 at 10:00 about preschools in general and The Gables’ Preschool in particular.

Karen is a Salem resident and the Director of Education and Community Service for The House of the Seven Gables; a position she has held since 2001. Education is Karen’s training and young child’s learning her passion for over 30 years. She received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Villa Maria College in Erie, PA, and a Masters in Education in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education. Karen has taught all age groups from Preschool to grade 7, was a tutor for a special needs student, an elementary school principal in an independent day school, and an unabashed advocate for The House of the Seven Gables Settlement child care programs.
