In the exhibition, visitor's will discover the art of dressmaking from period patterns, materials, and tools, sketch fashions at the design station, dress their own 18'-doll in elegant gowns, enjoy dressing up themselves and two never-before-seen Les Petites Dames de Mode ('The Little Ladies' of Fashion) will be debuted.
The lecture and book signing will take place Saturday, June 12th at 2pm at the Wenham Museum, 132 Main Street,Wenham, MA. Tickets can be purchased in advance, $8 for members, $12 for non-members and at-the-door $12 for members and $16 for non-members. Interviews will be available.
In his full color book, Les Petites Dames de Mode, Burbidge’s collection of 29-inch mannequins can be seen. Lavished in dresses reminiscent of the Gilded Age, the mannequins feature Burbidge’s journey as a designer. In his book he states, '[This is] what I would have designed, had I been there.' Mr. Burbidge's designs recreate life in the Gilded Age.
