The conference, to be held on October 24, 2010 from 12:30-4:30pm at the Leventhal-Sidman JCC, 333 Nahanton Street, Newton, will bring together individuals, families and organizations committed to a vision of welcoming spaces for all. According to conference coordinator Judy Pearl, Director of Special Needs Services for the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston, participants will leave with a deepened understanding of how to successfully include people with challenging behaviors into the many facets of community and religious life.
The event will feature a keynote presentation by Ross Greene, PhD, Associate Clinical
Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and originator of the Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach, which was first articulated in his acclaimed book, The Explosive Child. Concurrent breakout sessions for families, youth leaders and teens, synagogue staff and volunteers, and Jewish educators and communal professionals will follow, together with a closing panel discussion.
Beyond the Ramp is coordinated by the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston in partnership with Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Gateways: Access to Jewish Education, Hebrew College, Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters, Jewish Family and Children’s Service, Jewish Family Service of Metrowest and Jewish Vocational Service with additional support from Family Ties of Massachusetts, the Jewish Community Relations Council, Rabbi Karen Landy, Parent/Professional Advocacy League (PAL), Special Needs Advocacy Network (SPAN), and the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts.
