Conversations at the Vilna is a series of spirited discussions around the Vilna Shul's old study table with local scholars and authors about topics relevant to Jewish identity. This conversation will be led by Dr. David Rudolph MD. FACS. Dr. Rudolph will present an introduction to and discussion on the exhibit 'Deadly Medicine, Creating the Master Race.' His presentation will focus on the question, 'What does it mean to us?

After a brief review of the exhibit narrated by Dr. Rudolph, he will lead a discussion focusing on the years 1933 to 1941. The discussion will focus on eugenics, how healers became killers and the value of reviewing this history even here in the United States of America. This presentation will be a great introduction to the thought-provoking exhibit.

Together we will examine: How could this occur in a young democracy? How could the leading scientists and doctors forget their oaths and duties and willingly support the Nazi ideology? We will also explore how this exhibit helps us understand the fundamental questions of a healthy society and the rights of the individual in it. You can find out more about the Deadly Medicine Exhibit by going to http://www.ushmm.org/deadlymedicineboston/

The exhibit was produced by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and presented in partnership with Harvard Medical School at the Francis A. Countway Library of Medicine in the Longwood Medical Area of Boston through July 2011.
