Music in Early Childhood: Supporting Future Learning
Workshop for Community Educators, Musicians, and Early Childhood Professionals
This hands-on workshop will explore the principles of developmentally appropriate early childhood music instruction. Participants will learn about the music development in young children and how it can be supported through appropriate music instruction by engaging in activities that support and enhance the development of music aptitude and achievement.

Developmentally appropriate music experiences for children lay the foundation for a lifetime of rich, successful music participation. This workshop will explore why early childhood music is important and the types of music experiences that are most beneficial to young children.
Cynthia Taggart is professor of music education and area chair of music education at the Michigan State University College of Music where she also directs and teaches in the Early Childhood Music and Young Musicians Program of the MSU Community Music School. She teaches early childhood music methods, elementary general music methods, research, and measurement and evaluation. She also directs graduate research at the masters and doctoral levels.
