Paralyzed from the waist down after a skiing accident in 1988, Waddell went on to become the most decorated male skier in Paralympic history, winning twelve medals over four games. In the fall of 2009, Waddell set out to show the world that disabled and able-bodied people can do anything they set their minds to, and he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro.
A documentary film about Chris's climb was made, and it has won several awards at various film festivals. As part of Chris's film tour, he visits schools around the country and tells his unique story about how he has created an amazing life as a disabled skiier, adventurer, and activist. The essence of Chris’s message is, “It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do with what happens to you.'
In 2010, Waddell was inducted into both the Paralympic Hall of Fame and the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. He was named the Dalai Lama’s “Unsung Hero of Compassion.” Waddell has appeared on Dateline and Oprah, and this past July, he was featured on ABC 20/20’s “Super Humans” segment.
Fay school will host a free pizza dinner and meet-and-greet with Chris Waddell at 6:00pm in Fay's Primary School.
