On Sunday, March 18 at 1:00 at the Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History at Regis College in Weston, Sean Carollo, from the recently restored Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum, will speak on the life and career of the great social reformer, Susan B. Anthony.
Carollo will trace Anthony’s origins in Adams and her rise to the national stage with an emphasis on how she became the most recognizable symbol of the woman suffrage movement in the 19th century. An Anthony family descendent, Eric Anthony, from the Rhode Island branch of Anthony’s, will be available to answer questions. Adults and children alike will enjoy learning about the most famous face of woman suffrage, while taking a trip back to another time!
After the presentation, children are invited to create and take home their own women-on-stamps collection from the United States and around the world. Children can also participate in stamp hunts, games and puzzles for prizes and an arts and crafts project using stamps.
Throughout March, Spellman Museum will display postage stamps honoring many famous women from America’s past: Martha Washington, Clara Barton, Helen Keller, Ella Fitzgerald, Betty Davis and Marian Anderson. Visitors will be asked to nominate a woman to be honored by the Post Office.
