The Vilna Shul, Boston’s Center for Jewish Culture, is proud to present a special lecture by Dr. Michael A. Grodin, “What Do the Torah, Talmud, Codes and Responsa Come to Teach Us About Moral Dilemmas and Problematic Decision Making in Modern Medicine,” on Sunday, April 22, 2012.

An internationally known professor of medical ethics, Dr. Grodin will explore how ancient Jewish tradition can inform difficult decision making in modern medicine. Sunday, April 22, 2012, 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the Vilna Shul, 18 Phillips St. Boston, Mass. Program includes a bagel brunch. There is a suggested donation of $10 per person.

Michael A. Grodin, M.D. is Professor of Health Law, Bioethics and Human Rights at the Boston University School of Public Health. Dr. Grodin is Professor of Psychiatry and Family Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Grodin is a Professor of Religious and Theological Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences and Senior Faculty and Director of the Project on Medicine and the Holocaust at the Elie Wiesel Center for Judaic Studies. As a practicing physician, Dr. Grodin has been named one of America’s Top Physicians and has received a national Humanism in Medicine Award for “compassion and empathy in the delivery of care to patients and their families”. Dr. Grodin has received numerous teaching awards and has served on national and international panels and commissions focusing on medical ethics, human rights and the Holocaust. An internationally recognized scholar on the Holocaust, Dr. Grodin has received a special citation from the United State Holocaust Memorial Museum for “profound contributions- through original and creative research – to the cause of Holocaust education and remembrance.” He is the author of over 200 articles and the editor or co-editor of 5 books in the fields of Judaism, Holocaust studies, bioethics, health and human rights.
