Illustrator Stephen Biesty and author Richard Platt, who recently collaborated with the USS Constitution Museum to create the Museum’s award-winning website A Sailor’s Life for Me! (www.asailorslifeforme.org), will travel from England for a special two-day series of presentations at the USS Constitution Museum, located in the historic Charlestown Navy Yard, Boston.
The event kicks off with a special exhibition of the original artwork and text for the website, which provides an interactive adventure on board the famed USS Constitution during the War of 1812. See Constitution's teeming decks come to life with an up-close look at Biesty's richly-detailed illustrations and Platt's engaging text.
On Saturday, October 20 at 3:00pm,Richard Platt presents 'Finding a Voice: Writing Non-Fiction for Children.' Platt explores his experience in making history relevant, engaging, and accessible for a wide-ranging audience, and gives pointers to help aspiring writers find their own voice. Prior to the presentation, Platt will be on hand for a reception from 12:00-2:30.
On Sunday, October 21 at 3:00pm, artist Stephen Biesty discusses his creative process in 'Illustrating History in Detail.' From initial concept to final product, learn what it takes to bring the complex machines and vast cities in Biesty's work to life. Prior to his presentation, meet Biesty in person at a reception from 12:00-2:30.
